Man Paraded Naked After Inter-Caste Marriage in Maharashtra, 5 Arrested

A shocking incident of mob violence has rocked Bhusawal in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district, where a 25-year-old man was brutally assaulted, disrobed, tied to a pole, and paraded naked in public by a group of 15 people, including his in-laws. The horrific attack occurred on Friday, just hours after the victim had married a woman from a different community against her family's wishes.

Police Action and Arrests

Inspector Rahul Wagh of Bhusawal Bazarpeth police station stated that authorities rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the assault. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the crime and were identified as Komal Patil (one of the victim's in-laws), Heramb Chaudhary, Sanjay Badhe, Vijay Patil, and Dnyaneshwar Bhoi.

The main suspects—the newly married woman's maternal uncle, aunt, and their son—managed to flee the area and remain at large. Inspector Wagh confirmed that the arrested suspects were produced before a court on Saturday, where all five were remanded in five-day police custody for further investigation.

Legal Charges and FIR Details

An FIR has been registered based on the victim's complaint, invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include:

  • Section 109: Attempt to murder
  • Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
  • Section 118(2): Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means
  • Section 138: Abduction

These serious charges reflect the gravity of the assault, which police records indicate occurred between 11:30 AM and 12:00 noon on Friday.

Background of the Couple and Marriage

According to police statements, the victim and his wife belong to the same community but reside in adjacent villages. They had been in a relationship for approximately 18 months before deciding to marry against their families' objections.

The couple left their homes on March 18 and solemnized their marriage at Panchavati in Nashik. Following their wedding, they informed the Bhusawal police about their marriage, and authorities subsequently notified the woman's relatives. However, none of the family members visited the police station at that time.

The Brutal Attack Sequence

After their marriage, the couple sought refuge at the victim's uncle's house in Bhusawal. Shortly thereafter, a group of 15 people—including the victim's in-laws—stormed into the residence. They first assaulted both the newly-wed couple before specifically targeting the husband.

The attackers then subjected the victim to extreme humiliation: they disrobed him, tied him to a pole, and paraded him naked in public—an act that has drawn widespread condemnation and raised serious questions about mob justice and inter-community relations in the region.

This disturbing incident highlights ongoing challenges surrounding inter-caste and inter-community marriages in parts of India, despite legal protections. The police investigation continues as authorities search for the remaining suspects who orchestrated this brutal attack on the newly married couple.
