Tragic Birthday Eve: Shahdara Man Gunned Down in Dispute
A festive birthday celebration turned into a tragedy in East Delhi's Shahdara area on Friday night when a 27-year-old man was shot dead just an hour before his party was scheduled to begin. The victim, identified as Gagan Aahi, was allegedly killed by two men with whom he had a recent quarrel.
The Fatal Encounter: A Planned Meeting Turns Deadly
According to police officials, the incident occurred around 11:09 pm near a shop in V Block of Naveen Shahdara. Aahi had stepped out of his home to meet two men identified as Kunal (28) and Akshit (27). Preliminary investigations suggest the three had agreed to meet for a patch-up discussion regarding their recent dispute.
However, the situation took a violent turn when the two accused arrived at the spot on a motorcycle and allegedly fired at Aahi from close range. The victim sustained a gunshot wound on his forehead and was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Response and Arrests
The Shahdara police station received a PCR call reporting the shooting and immediately dispatched a team to the location. One suspect and the motorcycle used in the crime were detained soon after the incident. Multiple police teams worked through the night and eventually arrested both accused by Saturday evening.
Investigators confirmed they have recovered a pistol believed to be the murder weapon. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act at the Shahdara police station. Police are currently verifying the exact sequence of events and the specific roles played by each accused.
Contrasting Accounts of the Tragedy
While police maintain the shooting occurred during a dispute resolution meeting that turned violent, the victim's father presented a different version of events. Ravi Kumar, Aahi's father, told reporters at the crime scene: "Gagan came downstairs to meet a person, they shared a hug, and with that, the person shot Gagan in the head. He then fired a couple of shots in the air. When I came down, my son was lying in that spot. I don't know about any fight."
Police records indicate that Gagan Aahi had a criminal background, though the exact nature of his previous involvements wasn't immediately specified. Officers continue their investigation to determine the complete circumstances leading to the fatal shooting that cut short a young man's life on what should have been his birthday celebration.
