A 48-year-old man was shot and critically injured in a village in Patna district on Monday morning, the latest violent episode in what police describe as a long-standing personal rivalry.
Morning Attack Outside Family Home
The incident occurred in Madhopur village under the Bakhtiyarpur police station area. The victim, Sanjay Yadav, was attacked around 8 am as he stepped out of his house with his family. They were on their way to attend a function at a neighbour's home.
According to officials, the assailant, identified as Manoj Yadav, along with several associates, ambushed Sanjay. During the attack, a bullet struck Sanjay in the neck, causing severe injuries.
Police Response and Investigation
A police team rushed to the spot soon after the shooting. Ayush Srivastava, SDPO-II of Barh, provided details of the initial findings. "We have recovered a pistol and several empty cartridges from the scene," Srivastava said. The firearm has been sent for forensic examination to gather crucial evidence.
The officer confirmed that the roots of the violence lie in a bitter and prolonged dispute between Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Yadav. The tension had escalated recently, with the two men being involved in a physical clash just a few days prior to the shooting.
Accused with a Criminal History
Police revealed that the prime accused, Manoj Yadav, already faces five criminal cases registered at the Bakhtiyarpur police station. One of these existing cases is for the serious charge of attempt to murder, highlighting a pattern of alleged violent behaviour.
"Raids are being conducted to nab Manoj and his aides," SDPO Srivastava added, emphasising the active manhunt underway. He stated that a detailed investigation is in progress and further legal action will be determined based on the evidence collected from the crime scene.
Following the attack, Sanjay Yadav was first taken to a local medical facility for immediate aid. Due to the gravity of his gunshot wound, he was subsequently referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced, specialised treatment. His current condition remains a matter of concern.
