A man was injured in a gunshot during a clash in Chak Karekhan village under Verowal police station limits two days ago. The victim, Davinder Singh alias Jindu, sustained a bullet wound while allegedly trying to intervene and separate the two warring groups.
Police book 12 accused
Investigating officer ASI Baldev Singh stated that Gurjant Singh, Arshdeep Singh of Kang village, Anmoldeep Singh of Chak Karekhan, his father Sukhwinder Singh alias Lalo, his mother Kulwinder Kaur, and around 12 unidentified persons have been booked in connection with the incident.
According to the police, the clash initially erupted between the groups of Anmoldeep Singh and Dilpreet Singh in the village. Local residents intervened and managed to disperse the two groups. However, Anmoldeep Singh allegedly returned with additional supporters from outside the village, leading to a second confrontation.
Victim shot while trying to calm groups
Davinder Singh was reportedly shot when he stepped out of his house to calm both sides. During the altercation, Gurjant Singh allegedly opened fire, injuring him. The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 109, 190 and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
Victim hospitalized, raids underway
Davinder Singh has been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Mianwind. Police said that raids are underway to arrest the accused. The investigation is ongoing.
