Man stabs wife, mother-in-law to death in Ballia

In a horrific incident in Ballia district, a 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife and mother-in-law to death at Bachhaeepur village late Saturday night after his in-laws refused to send his wife with him. The attack also left his minor son and father-in-law injured, police said.

Details of the Incident

Ballia Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh identified the accused as Amit Gupta, a resident of Singhachaur under Gadwar police station. Amit attacked his wife Preeti Gupta (22), mother-in-law Sushila Devi (45), father-in-law Antu (50), and his two-and-a-half-year-old son before fleeing the scene. Alerted by neighbors, police rushed the victims to a hospital, where Preeti and Sushila were declared dead. Antu was referred to Varanasi for advanced treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Background of the Case

Initial investigation revealed that Amit married Preeti four years ago, and the couple had a son. However, Preeti had been living at her maternal home for the past few months, citing alleged harassment by her husband. Amit had made repeated visits to his in-laws' home to take her back, but she refused. The situation escalated on Saturday night.
