In a tragic incident, a young man and woman were discovered dead inside a house in Barnala district, sending shockwaves through the local community. The bodies were found in a residence owned by a non-resident Indian (NRI) in Tallewal village, located under the Mehal Kalan Assembly constituency.
Details of the Deceased and Discovery
The deceased have been identified as Parvinder Singh (30), a resident of Kaonke village in Ludhiana district, and Baljit Kaur (25), who hailed from Aligarh village, also within Ludhiana district. Preliminary police investigations indicate that the two individuals were not married to each other.
According to authorities, the couple had arrived in Tallewal village on December 24. They had reportedly taken the NRI-owned house on rent. The caretaker of the property, Hardeep Singh, who is a friend of Parvinder, made the grim discovery. Early on Friday morning, when he went to serve tea, he found their bodies and immediately alerted the police.
Scene of the Incident and Police Investigation
Upon reaching the spot, police found Parvinder Singh's body hanging from a ceiling fan, using a dupatta. Baljit Kaur's body was lying on a bed in the same room. Nirmaljit Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tallewal, stated that prima facie, the case appears to be one of suicide based on the positioning of the bodies. However, he emphasized that the investigation is exploring all possible angles.
The police swiftly called a forensic team to the scene to collect samples and evidence. Aadhaar cards recovered from the house helped establish the identities and addresses of the deceased. Parvinder Singh's family informed the police that the two were living together, while the woman's family was yet to arrive in the village as of the initial reporting.
Ongoing Inquiries and Official Statements
Police have stated that the postmortem examination of the bodies will be conducted on Saturday, December 28. The exact cause of death will be ascertained following this procedure. Mohammad Sarfraz Alam, SSP Barnala, confirmed that a forensic team inspected the spot. As per initial findings, proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), pertaining to death by suicide, are being carried out.
The SHO added that further investigation will proceed after recording statements from both families. Parvinder Singh had reportedly come to the village in search of a shop to start a fast-food business. The police are treating this as a sensitive case and continue their probe to piece together the events leading to this tragic outcome.
