Manipur Police Arrest Three Militants in Coordinated Security Operations
In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur police have successfully arrested three militants, including two women associated with different banned organizations, in separate operations conducted across two districts. According to an official police statement released on Sunday, these arrests were executed on Saturday, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
Arrests in Tengnoupal and Imphal East Districts
Security forces carried out targeted operations in Tengnoupal and Imphal East districts, resulting in the apprehension of the militants. In Tengnoupal district, two women cadres of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested from the vicinity of Sunrise Ground. The individuals have been identified as Akoijam Sakhenbi, aged 23, and Chongtham Hembaby, aged 17. This operation underscores the active involvement of female militants in the region's insurgent groups.
In a separate operation conducted in Imphal East district, a militant linked to the banned PREPAK (PRO) outfit was arrested from Napetpalli. The arrested individual is Ingudam Ingocha Singh, aged 50. During the arrest, police recovered a .32 pistol loaded with five cartridges from his possession, indicating the potential for armed violence. These arrests demonstrate the vigilance of security forces in tackling threats posed by various militant factions.
Recovery and Defusal of Improvised Explosive Device
In another critical development, security forces recovered a 10 kg improvised explosive device (IED) near Sijang Kuki village in Churachandpur district on Friday. The IED, which posed a severe threat to public safety, was later defused safely by a specialized bomb disposal team. This recovery highlights the persistent challenges faced by authorities in countering explosive threats in conflict-prone areas of Manipur.
The police statement emphasized that these operations are part of broader initiatives to curb militant activities and ensure the security of residents. The arrests and IED recovery come amid ongoing tensions in Manipur, where various banned organizations have been active, necessitating continuous surveillance and action by law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, urging the public to cooperate with security forces. These incidents serve as a reminder of the complex security landscape in Manipur, where multiple insurgent groups operate, often targeting civilians and infrastructure.
Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the militants' activities and any potential links to broader networks. The police have assured that all legal procedures are being followed in handling the arrested individuals, with charges expected to be filed under relevant anti-terrorism laws.
