Mason Drowns in Kanpur Canal After Slipping into Pit

Kanpur: A tragic incident occurred on Friday evening when a 35-year-old mason, Vipin Kashyap, drowned in the Ghatampur canal in the Rania police station area of Kanpur Dehat. The accident happened near Pachgaon village when he slipped into a deep pit while bathing.

Incident Details

According to reports, Vipin Kashyap, a resident of Kush Rawal village, worked as a mason and had gone to work at an under-construction house in Pachgaon village on Friday. After finishing his work in the evening, he was returning home on his bike. Due to the excessive heat, he decided to bathe in the Ghatampur Rajbaha canal along the way.

The Accident

At around 6 pm, while bathing, Vipin's foot slipped into a deep pit that had been dug by a canal department contractor for the construction of a new bridge. The strong current swept him into deep water. Other people present at the spot tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful due to the powerful flow.

Search and Recovery

Upon receiving information, station in-charge Dinesh Kumar Gautam arrived at the scene and initiated a search operation with the help of local divers. After considerable effort, Vipin's body was recovered late at night at around 11:30 pm. The police took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.

Rania police station in-charge Dinesh Gautam confirmed the recovery and stated that further investigations are underway.
