Mass Dog Killings in Telangana: 100 Dogs Allegedly Killed in Nagarkurnool Village
In a deeply disturbing development, the mass killings of dogs continue to surface across Telangana, with another horrific incident reported from Thummaipally village in Nagarkurnool district. According to recent allegations, approximately 100 canines were brutally killed in this village over the past 10 days. The killings are said to have been carried out under the direction of the village sarpanch, highlighting a severe breach of animal welfare norms.
FIR Filed Against Sarpanch and Others Under Animal Cruelty Laws
An FIR was officially filed on Tuesday against the sarpanch, the panchayat secretary, and other individuals involved in this gruesome act. The charges have been registered under Sections 325, read with 3(5) of the BNS, and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960. This section specifically deals with the killing and poisoning of animals by multiple persons, underscoring the gravity of the offense.
Mudavath Preethi, the complainant in this case, provided chilling details about the incident. "I received information that about 100 dogs were killed in the last 10 days by administering lethal injections by hiring dog killers for Rs 18,000," Preethi stated. She further added that the carcasses were buried approximately two kilometers away from the village, attempting to conceal the evidence of this atrocity.
Another Incident in Siddipet District: 50 Stray Dogs Relocated Illegally
In a related and equally alarming incident, 50 stray dogs were allegedly captured from Boppapur village in Siddipet district. These dogs were then relocated to a nearby forest area, an act that blatantly violates animal protection laws. This operation too was reportedly carried out by the sarpanch and secretary of the village, indicating a pattern of disregard for legal and ethical standards in animal handling.
Adulapuram Goutham, another complainant involved in these cases, emphasized the seriousness of these actions. "These incidents reflect a serious disregard for animal welfare laws and call for strict legal action against the perpetrators to prevent such atrocities in the future," Goutham remarked. His statement underscores the urgent need for accountability and enforcement of existing regulations to protect vulnerable animals.
Growing Concerns Over Animal Welfare in Telangana
The repeated occurrences of such mass dog killings in Telangana raise significant concerns about the state of animal welfare in the region. These incidents not only violate the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act but also highlight a broader issue of community attitudes towards stray animals. The use of lethal injections and illegal relocations points to a systematic approach that bypasses humane and legal methods of animal population control.
Authorities are now under pressure to take decisive action to curb these practices. The filing of the FIR is a step towards justice, but it must be followed by thorough investigations and stringent penalties for those found guilty. Animal rights activists and local residents are calling for increased awareness and stricter implementation of laws to ensure such tragedies do not recur.
As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for the public and policymakers alike to recognize the importance of compassion and legality in dealing with animal-related issues. The protection of animals is not just a legal obligation but a moral imperative that reflects the values of a civilized society.
