Massive Fire Engulfs Three Scrap Godowns in Kanpur's New Azad Nagar, No Casualties Reported

Panic gripped the Satbari Maidan area in Kanpur's New Azad Nagar late Tuesday night after a massive fire erupted and completely gutted three scrap storage godowns. While fortunately no casualties were reported in the incident, scrap material worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the intense blaze.

Fire Originates in One Godown, Spreads Rapidly to Adjacent Units

According to official reports, the fire initially broke out at the scrap godown owned by an individual named Rahul. This storage unit contained a large quantity of plastic materials and other highly flammable scrap items, which provided ample fuel for the fire. The flames spread with alarming speed due to the combustible nature of the stored materials, soon reaching and engulfing two adjacent godowns owned by scrap dealers Shailendra and Sheelu.

The intensity of the fire created a terrifying scene for local residents, who reported that the sky glowed red from the flames. Thick, billowing smoke and towering flames prompted residents to rush out of their homes in panic as the fire threatened to spread further.

Emergency Response and Firefighting Efforts

New Azad Nagar chowki in-charge, Sub-Inspector Vijay Singh, quickly reached the spot with a police force. Their immediate priority was ensuring public safety—they moved people to a safe distance from the raging fire before alerting the fire brigade. Multiple fire tenders were deployed to the scene, where firefighters engaged in a prolonged battle against the flames before finally bringing the situation under control.

Sen Paschim Para police station in-charge Pradeep Kumar Singh stated that while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary suspicions point toward either a short circuit or ignition from a flammable substance within one of the godowns. The investigation will determine the precise origin and cause of this destructive incident.

The incident highlights the fire risks associated with storing large quantities of flammable materials, particularly in densely populated residential areas like New Azad Nagar. Authorities are expected to review safety protocols for such storage facilities in the wake of this fire.
