Daily-Wager Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Mother in Meerut's Hastinapur Area

In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a 29-year-old man working as a daily-wager in Haridwar has been accused of strangling his 55-year-old mother to death following a minor argument in Meerut's Hastinapur area. Police officials confirmed the arrest on Sunday, revealing grim details about the accused's violent history.

Argument Over Food Distribution Leads to Fatal Confrontation

According to Circle Officer Pankaj Lavania, the accused, identified as Sanjay Das, became enraged with his mother, Nirmala Devi, because she frequently distributed food items to their neighbors. The confrontation escalated on Saturday in Garhi colony, where Das allegedly attacked his mother during a heated exchange.

"Sanjay Das was upset with his mother, Nirmala Devi, as she frequently distributed food items to neighbors," stated CO Lavania. "On Saturday, a heated argument ensued and in a fit of rage, Das killed her."

Accused Attempts to Conceal Crime, Sits Beside Body for Hours

Police investigation revealed that Das, who had returned home just two days prior to the incident, remained with his mother's body for several hours after the killing. He reportedly tried to mislead neighbors by claiming she had died of a natural heart attack.

Suspecting foul play, local residents wisely refrained from performing last rites and immediately informed authorities. A police team promptly arrived at the residence and took Das into custody for questioning.

Confession Reveals Brutal Details of the Murder

During police interrogation, Das confessed to the horrific crime. He admitted to continuously strangling his mother until she stopped breathing. The body has been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, while Das remains in police custody facing murder charges.

Previous Criminal History Involving Infant Son's Death

This tragic incident marks the second violent family crime associated with Das. In November 2024, he was accused of killing his 21-day-old infant son under suspicion that the child was not biologically his. His wife had filed a formal case against him at that time.

Das had been released from jail approximately eight months ago after serving time related to the infant's death case. The recent murder has raised serious questions about rehabilitation and monitoring of individuals with violent criminal histories.

Police authorities are continuing their investigation into both cases while the community grapples with this double tragedy of family violence.
