LOHARDAGA: A mentally unstable man was arrested for allegedly bludgeoning his elderly mother and wife to death in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district, police said on Sunday. The incident took place in Dhanamuji village under the Bhandra police station area on Saturday evening. The deceased were identified as Rupi Oraon (62) and Somri Oraon (45), according to news agency PTI.
Arrest and Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Madwa Oraon, was taken into custody immediately after the incident. He allegedly attacked his mother and wife with an iron rod following an altercation over some issues, leading to their death on the spot, said Lohardaga Superintendent of Police (SP) Sadique Anwar Rizvi. The bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital in Lohardaga for post-mortem examination.
Mental Health Background
Police officials revealed that the accused has been mentally unstable and undergoing treatment for the last one year. He used to get agitated over small issues, which might have been the reason behind the incident, another police officer stated. An FIR has been registered against the accused, confirmed Manoj Gupta, officer-in-charge of Bhandra police station.
The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local community. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the altercation. The accused remains in police custody as further inquiries proceed.
