Mercedes driver gets bail in fatal Delhi hit-and-run case

In a tragic incident that has left a family shattered, the driver of a luxury SUV involved in a fatal hit-and-run in the national capital was granted bail on Sunday. The accused, identified as Shivam Arora, a software engineer, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz G-63 when the vehicle struck three individuals in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the death of a young chef.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The fatal collision occurred around 2:15 am on Nelson Mandela Marg in New Delhi. According to the police FIR, based on a complaint by one of the victims, Lalit, he along with Rohit and Kapil were heading home after finishing their duty. As they neared a bus stop, a black Mercedes G-63, being driven at high speed and in a reckless manner, came towards them. The vehicle hit all three with tremendous force, dragging Rohit and Kapil along before eventually crashing into an iron pole and flipping over.

The senior police officer handling the case stated that Arora was booked under sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and 125 (endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Since these sections are bailable, he was granted bail. The investigation has also extended to questioning his brother, who was a passenger in the car, and the vehicle's owner, a friend of Arora.

A Family's Life Shattered: The Human Cost

The victim, Rohit, succumbed to his injuries. His postmortem was conducted on Monday after his family arrived in Delhi from Uttarakhand. His body was then taken to his native place for last rites. Speaking to the media, Rohit's father, Yashwant Singh Bisht, painted a heartbreaking picture of their loss.

"My wife has been bedridden for several years due to illness. Rohit was our only earning member," said the devastated father. He revealed that the family had even finalised a match for Rohit and planned to formalise the engagement during his visit home in January. "When we last spoke on Nov 27, he said he would come home with his younger brother... Now our entire life is shattered."

Demand for Justice and Compensation

The grieving family is now demanding strict legal action against the accused and seeking government compensation for their unimaginable loss. "Our son is no more, but the accused shouldn't be spared. We also urge the govt to provide suitable compensation as we don't know how we will survive now that our sole breadwinner is gone," Yashwant Singh Bisht pleaded.

The case highlights the grave consequences of rash driving on city roads, especially during late hours. The police investigation is ongoing to establish the complete sequence of events leading to the tragic accident that claimed a young life and left a family in despair.
