Mhow Army Demolishes 13 Illegal Structures

Mhow: Army authorities on Monday demolished 13 illegal constructions spanning over 35,000 square feet on A-1 category defence land adjoining Banda Basti locality in Mhow.

The action came in the backdrop of a major controversy that erupted on May 29 following reports of alleged cow slaughter at one of the sheds in Banda Basti area. A group of residents had pelted stones on police personnel while they were seizing meat and animal remains from the spot.

Since early Monday morning heavy deployment of police and Armymen was witnessed around the site. Three earth moving machines were used for the demolition in the presence of Mhow SDM Rakesh Parmar, a large police force and four quick response team (QRT) vehicles.

Parmar said, “Eleven major encroachments were removed from ministry of defence land. The encroachers had occupied the prime defence land for a long time and were carrying out illegal activities there, complaints of which were being received at all levels of civil and Army administration. Notices were issued earlier to the encroachers and they were given sufficient time to vacate and remove the structures. But when they failed to do so, the anti-encroachment drive was carried out on Monday.”

Unlike last time, there was no resistance from the encroachers or their supporters during the Monday’s anti-encroachment drive.
