Minister's Intervention Leads to Arrest in Kolkata Harassment Case

Kolkata: A 62-year-old man accused of sexually harassing an 11-year-old girl in the Narendrapur area was arrested after state women and child welfare minister Agnimitra Paul directed the police to ensure the accused did not escape the law. Paul visited the girl's family after receiving complaints that the accused had remained absconding despite a case being registered. She assured the family of support and instructed the Baruipur police district superintendent to arrest the accused at the earliest.

Incident Details

The alleged incident took place a few days ago. The girl's family lodged a complaint on May 11, following which a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was registered. Police said five teams were formed under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Arghyo Mondal to trace the accused, who was nabbed in the early hours of Tuesday.

Minister's Statement

Paul stated, "No one committing such crimes in today's time will be spared." She emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual offences and reiterated that strict action would be taken against perpetrators.
