Chandigarh: The UT Police have apprehended a 17-year-old boy in connection with a firing incident that occurred during a religious event in Khuda Lahora. The minor is a resident of a village in Mohali.
Previous Arrest and Court Proceedings
Earlier, a suspect named Jashanpreet, involved in the same case, was caught by attendees at the scene and handed over to law enforcement. He was produced in court and remanded to two-day police custody on Friday.
Ongoing Raids for Absconding Accused
Raids are currently underway to arrest the main accused, Naman, who allegedly opened fire, and his associate, Sagar.
Two individuals, Parambir and Gursewak, both residents of Khudda Jassu, sustained bullet injuries during the shooting on Thursday night. They were rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
Details of the Incident
On Thursday night, a religious gathering was organized near the road connecting Khudda Lahora and Khudda Jassu. The accused were roaming in the area in a Maruti Swift car, playing loud music with the windows down.
Attendees of the event requested the youths to leave, but they repeatedly passed through the same route, leading to a heated argument. The youths initially left but returned later, armed with weapons. It is alleged that Naman drew a pistol and fired shots, while his accomplices attacked people with swords.
Legal Action and Background
The Sarangpur police station has registered a case against the accused under sections related to attempt to murder, the Arms Act, and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police have stated that the accused do not have any prior criminal record. Efforts are ongoing to capture the absconding individuals.
