A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths from the same village in Saran district, Bihar, on Sunday. Police have detained one of the accused, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining two.
Incident Details
The incident occurred when the minor girl left her home to visit a library in the local market area, accompanied by a younger boy she knew. According to police, two young men on a motorcycle intercepted them on the way, forcibly took the girl to a secluded area, and held the boy hostage. One of the perpetrators called another friend to the spot, and the three allegedly committed the crime.
After the incident, the assailants brandished a knife and fled the scene. A known person later escorted the girl back home. The victim's family then filed a written complaint at the police station. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police Investigation
Saran Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vineet Kumar visited the crime spot on Sunday night and ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sadar-II. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also arrived at the location and collected evidence.
SSP Kumar stated, “A minor accused has been detained and sent to Chapra Sadar Hospital for medical examination. The girl has also undergone a medical examination, and her statement was recorded before a magistrate on Monday. The police are continuing raids to apprehend the two absconding accused.”
Background of the Accused
A police officer revealed that the three accused are friends and had no prior acquaintance with the girl. However, they are suspected to have been observing her while she visited the library. Initial investigations indicate that the boy who accompanied the girl was not involved in the crime.
The police are conducting further investigations to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence. The medical reports of the victim and the detained accused are awaited.
