A shocking knife attack in Maharashtra's Thane district has triggered a serious investigation after allegations surfaced that a security guard was told to recite the Kalma or be killed during the assault. The incident took place in the early hours of April 27 in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road, near an under-construction site. Two security guards were attacked and severely injured.
Accused Identified and Arrested
Police identified the accused as Jabar Zubair Ansari, who was arrested within 90 minutes of the incident after CCTV footage helped trace his movements. A case of attempted murder has been registered, and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken over the investigation due to the suspected ideological angle.
Evidence of Radicalisation
Investigators say handwritten notes recovered from the accused's residence allegedly reference ISIS and suggest the attack may have been a first step toward joining the organisation. Authorities are also analysing electronic devices to check for online radicalisation or external influence.
Victims' Condition
The victims, Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Ramesh Sen, are currently under treatment, with one reported to be in critical condition. Officials have clarified that the investigation is ongoing and all angles, including lone-wolf inspiration and digital radicalisation, are being examined.
