A miscreant sustained a bullet injury to his leg while attempting to flee from police custody in Kurukshetra late Monday evening. The incident occurred when the accused, identified as Vishal alias Vicky, a resident of Sodhi village in Kurukshetra, tried to escape after biting a policeman's hand.
Background of the Arrest
Vishal was arrested in connection with the Gandhi Nagar firing incident last month, in which two individuals suffered bullet injuries. He was allegedly involved in supplying weapons to the accused. The CIA-2 unit of the Kurukshetra police had arrested Vicky from Punjab and obtained a four-day police remand from the court.
Recovery of Weapons
During the remand, Vicky confessed to providing the weapons and informed the police that he still had some weapons and live cartridges at his home. He was taken to his house for recovery, where two country-made pistols, four magazines, and 20 live cartridges were recovered.
Escape Attempt
While returning from the house, as the police team reached near Umri village, Vicky told the policemen that he wanted to answer the call of nature. Taking advantage of the darkness, he bit the hand of a policeman and attempted to flee. CIA-2 in-charge Mandeep Singh stated, “He began a scuffle and then tried to flee. He was warned with an aerial fire, but he did not stop. To nab him, another shot was fired and he suffered an injury to his leg.”
Current Status
Vicky was taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital (LNJP Civil Hospital) in Kurukshetra, where he is currently undergoing treatment. According to the police, there were more than 20 cases registered against him. The police have registered a case regarding the escape attempt and are investigating further.
