Patna: Missing Class X Girl Found Dead in Purnia, Protests Erupt Over Alleged Rape-Murder

The body of a Class X student who had been missing for nine days was discovered in Purnia district on Friday, sparking widespread outrage and violent protests. The half-burned remains were found inside a sack near National Highway-31, concealed within a bamboo grove, according to police reports.

Mother Alleges Abduction, Rape, and Murder

The girl's mother has made grave allegations, claiming her daughter was abducted, subjected to gang rape, and murdered. She asserted that the perpetrators attempted to destroy evidence by burning the body, possibly with acid, to conceal its identity. The victim, aged 17, was reported missing on March 11, with a formal complaint filed at the local police station the following day.

Violent Protests Block National Highway

Upon learning of the recovery, family members and villagers erupted in anger, leading to massive demonstrations. Hundreds of people blocked NH-31, burning tires and engaging in arson while demanding immediate justice and the arrest of all those responsible. Intense sloganeering targeted the police administration, accusing them of negligence. After approximately two hours, police managed to persuade the protesters and clear the blockade.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Police have arrested the main accused, identified as 22-year-old Sachin Kumar Sah. According to the girl's cousin, Sah was known to the victim and is alleged to have abducted her with the help of several other boys. The cousin stated, "We searched on our own but found no clue. Looking at the condition of the body, it appears she was killed the same day she went missing."

Purnia Superintendent of Police Sweety Sehrawat provided details on the investigation: "The body was recovered based on identification by the main accused. Our Forensic Science Laboratory team has collected evidence from the crime scene. We have taken one suspect into custody, and raids are ongoing to trace the other accused. The body has been sent for post-mortem; official confirmation of rape and acid use will be established after the report arrives."

Allegations of Brutal Crime

The family alleges that the girl was gang-raped at a local hotel, strangled, and her body stuffed into a sack before being dumped in the field. The use of acid to burn the body suggests a deliberate attempt to hinder identification and forensic analysis. This case has highlighted concerns over women's safety and police responsiveness in the region.

As the investigation continues, authorities are under pressure to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly to prevent further unrest. The community remains on edge, with calls for stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals and improve law enforcement efficiency in handling such sensitive cases.
