Major Drug Bust in Mizoram: Police Seize Narcotics Worth Over Rs 15.61 Crore

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Mizoram Police have confiscated a massive haul of methamphetamine and crystal meth estimated to be worth more than Rs 15.61 crore. The seizures occurred at four different locations across the state over the past week, as confirmed by Inspector General of Police H Ramthlengliana on Monday.

Detailed Breakdown of the Seizures

The operation unfolded through a series of coordinated raids and investigations. On Sunday, authorities seized 3.383 kg of methamphetamine in Saitual from two residents of Assam, marking a crucial interception in the drug supply chain.

Earlier, on Friday, a joint effort by Champhai police and Assam Rifles personnel led to the recovery of 5.188 kg of meth from an abandoned rucksack near Zokhawthar village. Simultaneously, officials from the Dungtlang Police Station made another significant find, seizing 5.9 kg of meth along with 68 grams of heroin from a truck.

Arrests and Further Recoveries

The investigation intensified as police pursued leads, resulting in the apprehension of HT Rodawngliana on Saturday in Dungtlang. This individual, who had previously evaded capture, was taken into custody, leading to the recovery of an additional 3 kg of methamphetamine.

In Aizawl, the Special Narcotics Police Station, in collaboration with Assam Rifles, conducted a raid that yielded 2.045 kg of crystal meth. This operation also resulted in the arrest of two persons, further dismantling the narcotics network operating in the region.

Impact and Ongoing Efforts

The total seizure amounts to 19.518 kg of illicit drugs, highlighting the scale of the narcotics trade in Mizoram. Police officials have emphasized that these busts are part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking and related crimes in the state. The estimated street value of over Rs 15.61 crore underscores the economic impact of such illegal activities.

Authorities continue to probe the connections and sources of these drugs, with ongoing investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending other individuals involved in the trafficking ring. The successful operations demonstrate the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation and vigilant policing in tackling the drug menace.
