Mizoram Police Seize Massive Crystal Meth Haul Worth Rs 8.29 Crore in Aizawl

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Mizoram Police have confiscated a substantial quantity of crystal methamphetamine and apprehended one individual in connection with the case. The operation, which took place in Aizawl, underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling in the region.

Details of the Drug Seizure and Arrest

According to IGP H Ramthlengliana, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Mizoram Police Department, law enforcement officials seized 10.369 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated international market value exceeding Rs 8.29 crore. The arrest was made following a targeted operation based on reliable intelligence inputs.

The suspect, identified as Tongbram Priyobarta Singh, a 50-year-old resident of Hastal Village in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi, was taken into custody during the raid. The operation was conducted by a specialized team from the Criminal Investigation Department (Special Branch) at Chaltlang in north Aizawl, occurring around 10:48 PM on Thursday.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the contraband was trafficked from Myanmar and was intended for further transportation to Guwahati. This disclosure highlights the cross-border nature of the drug trade and its connections to major distribution hubs.

A formal case has been registered at the Special Narcotic Police Station in Aizawl under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act. Authorities have confirmed that further legal action and in-depth investigation are currently underway to uncover additional details and potential links in the smuggling network.

Context and Implications

This seizure is part of broader initiatives by Mizoram Police to address the escalating issue of drug trafficking in the state, which often involves routes from neighboring countries like Myanmar. The successful operation not only disrupts the supply chain but also sends a strong message against such illegal activities.

The arrest of an individual from Delhi indicates the far-reaching networks involved in narcotics distribution, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts across state lines to effectively tackle this menace.
