In a swift investigation, the Mohali police have successfully cracked the murder case of a golgappa vendor, leading to the arrest of all four individuals accused of the crime. The victim lost his life after attempting to intervene in a quarrel, with the prime suspect reportedly having a prior dispute with the victim's brother.
Details of the Arrest and the Accused
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans confirmed the arrests on Friday. The police have identified the four accused as follows:
- Chaturbhuji alias Ajay Mishra, originally from Shravasti district in Uttar Pradesh, currently living in Jujhar Nagar.
- Shiv Kumar alias Sibu (18), a tenant residing behind the Government School in Maloya.
- Arjun Mishra alias Ajay Mishra (21), of Jujhar Nagar.
- Manish Kumar alias Munna (18), from Sultanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, also a resident of Jujhar Nagar.
All the accused fall under the jurisdiction of the Balongi police station.
How the Fatal Incident Unfolded
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karan Singh Sandhu from Kharar explained that the victim was attacked when he tried to pacify a fight. "He went to resolve the matter, but the accused grabbed him and stabbed him to death," stated the DSP.
Providing more specifics, Inspector Periwinkle Singh Grewal, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Balongi, said the incident took place at Street No. 11 in Jujhar Nagar. A man named Mohit Baghel was being assaulted when his father, Bhagat Singh Baghel, and his two brothers, Mukesh and Birjes, rushed to his aid.
During the ensuing scuffle, Arjun Mishra and Chaturbhuji allegedly held Mukesh Baghel, while Shiv Kumar stabbed him in the abdomen. Mukesh Baghel succumbed to his injuries from the attack.
Police Investigation and Custody
Following the crime, the police registered a case and formed multiple teams to track down the culprits. Utilizing a combination of CCTV footage analysis, local intelligence inputs, and technical evidence, the teams were able to locate and arrest all four accused.
The arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody. The remand is intended for the recovery of the murder weapon and to conduct further investigation into the case.
