Monu Manesar Released from Jail After 2.5 Years in Custody

Monu Manesar, a key accused in the high-profile 2023 murder case of Junaid and Nasir, has been released from Sevar Central Jail in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district. He spent nearly two-and-a-half years in judicial custody before his release, as confirmed by police officials.

Background of the Junaid and Nasir Murder Case

The case revolves around the tragic deaths of Junaid, aged 35, and his cousin Nasir, aged 27. In February 2023, their charred bodies were discovered inside a burnt vehicle in Haryana's Bhiwani district, according to reports from the news agency PTI. Both victims were residents of the Pahadi area, and the initial case was registered at the Gopalgarh police station. Notably, the Pahadi and Gopalgarh regions now form part of the newly established Deeg district, which was previously included within Bharatpur district.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Grant

The Rajasthan High Court granted Monu Manesar regular bail on March 5, 2024. He was subsequently released on March 7, 2024, after completing all necessary legal formalities. His release occurred under heavy security measures, with police personnel escorting him out of the jail premises. A significant crowd of his supporters and cow vigilantes from Haryana gathered outside the jail during the release, prompting authorities to deploy additional police forces to ensure law and order in the area.

Allegations and Denials in the Case

Family members of Junaid and Nasir have consistently alleged that the two victims were kidnapped, assaulted, and murdered by members of the Bajrang Dal, a claim that the organization has firmly denied. Monu Manesar was specifically accused of involvement in a conspiracy related to the murders. In a separate development, he was taken into custody by Rajasthan Police in September 2023, following his arrest by Haryana Police in connection with communal violence incidents in Nuh.

The release marks a significant turn in this ongoing legal saga, which has drawn widespread attention due to its implications for communal tensions and judicial processes in the region.
