Tragedy Strikes Early Morning in Guwahati
A peaceful morning walk turned fatal for a 60-year-old man in Guwahati when a speeding truck struck him in the Narengi area early Wednesday. The victim, identified as Bhagwan Chandra Das, a local resident, succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a private hospital.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident occurred near the busy Narengi Tiniali stretch, an area known for heavy pedestrian and commuter traffic. According to police reports, the truck was traveling from Panikhaiti toward Six Mile when it hit Das, who was out for his regular morning walk.
The driver did not stop at the scene and fled immediately after the collision. Medical professionals at the private hospital declared Das dead upon arrival. His body was subsequently transferred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination.
Police Investigation Underway
Chandan Sarma, the Traffic in-charge of Noonmati Police Station, confirmed that authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation. "We have initiated a thorough investigation and are actively tracking the truck's movement," stated Sarma.

- Data from the integrated traffic management system (ITMS)
All nearby police stations have been alerted about the incident and are assisting in the search for the fleeing vehicle. While the driver's identity remains unconfirmed, investigators expressed confidence in making an arrest soon, noting they are following several promising leads.
