A tragic incident has shaken the Mano English Bind Toli locality in Bihar's Lakhisarai district, where a widow and her teenage daughter were discovered dead inside their locked home on Monday morning. The police are investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding their deaths, with initial suspicion pointing towards suicide.
Discovery of the Bodies
The grim discovery was made around 9 am on Monday in the Suryagarha police station area. The door of the one-room house where the duo lived was found locked from the inside, with no signs of movement. This raised alarm among the villagers.
Pintu Kumar Bind (19), a cousin of the teenage girl, along with other locals, used a ladder to enter the house through a window. The scene inside was horrifying. Pintu fainted upon seeing the bodies of his aunt and cousin lying on the bed. The villagers then managed to open the main door from inside.
Police Investigation and Initial Findings
Upon receiving the information, the police team, led by Suryagarha SHO Bhagwan Ram, rushed to the spot. The bodies were sent to the sadar hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
SHO Ram stated that prima facie, the case appears to be one of suicide. "During an investigation, police found traces of vomit on the bed and surrounding areas. This raises the suspicion that they might have consumed poison; however, no poison bottle has been found in their room, which was locked from the inside. No suicide note has been found either," he said.
However, the police have not ruled out other possibilities. "The police cannot rule out the possibility that they died of food poisoning. The actual reason behind the death will be known from their autopsy report," Ram added. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to collect crucial evidence from the scene.
Background of the Deceased Family
The deceased have been identified as Gauri Devi (40), wife of the late Chhotu Bind, and her 16-year-old daughter, Kajal Kumari. According to police and relatives, the family's life had been marked by hardship.
Gauri's husband, Chhotu Bind, passed away in 2009. Since then, the widow had single-handedly taken care of her children. The family lived alone in a modest one-room house. Both of Gauri's sons work as labourers in Delhi, leaving the mother and daughter to fend for themselves in Lakhisarai.
The police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and is being looked at from all angles. The community remains in shock as they await the final autopsy report, which is expected to shed light on the exact sequence of events that led to this heartbreaking double death in Lakhisarai district.
