Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives of Mother and Two Daughters in Chatra
In a heartbreaking incident in Chatra district, a woman and her two young daughters drowned in a pond on Sunday, according to local police reports. The tragedy unfolded at Bhojya village under the Sadar block, sending shockwaves through the community.
Details of the Fatal Mishap
The victims have been identified as Parwa Devi, aged 28, and her daughters Geeta Kumari, 8, and Malti Kumari, 6. The family had gone to the Barka Aahar pond to wash clothes, a routine activity that turned deadly. While engaged in the task, Malti accidentally slipped into the water, prompting her mother and sister to jump in immediately in a desperate attempt to rescue her.
Unfortunately, all three were unable to escape the pond's depths and drowned. After strenuous efforts by rescue teams, the bodies were recovered from the water. The officer in-charge of the Sadar police station, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, confirmed that the bodies were sent to the Chatra sadar hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities Respond with Compensation
In the wake of this devastating loss, Chatra sub-divisional officer Md Zahur Alam announced that financial assistance would be provided to the bereaved family. Under the District Disaster Relief Fund (DDRF), Rs 4 lakh will be given for each deceased individual, totaling Rs 12 lakh. This measure aims to offer some support to the family as they cope with the immense grief and financial strain following the tragedy.
