Mumbai Care Home Horror: Caretaker Ties 75-Year-Old Woman to Bed, Assaults Her
In a shocking incident at a senior care facility in Mumbai, a 30-year-old caretaker allegedly tied the hands of a 75-year-old woman to her bed and physically assaulted her with a broom. The distressing event occurred on March 11 at the Sai Senior Care Foundation located in Bamane Niwas, Gorai 2, Borivli West, according to police reports.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The accused caretaker, identified as Surekha Pawar, a resident of Palghar, is said to have targeted the elderly victim, Vishali Ajwelkar, a retired woman who has been residing at the care home for the past six months. On the day of the incident, between 4 pm and 5 pm, Ajwelkar reportedly needed to use the lavatory frequently due to a medical condition, but Pawar allegedly refused to assist her multiple times.
Later, while Ajwelkar was sleeping, Pawar allegedly tied her hands to the bed to restrain her. She then proceeded to beat the elderly woman with a broom, causing physical harm. The assault was reportedly carried out to prevent Ajwelkar from resisting or seeking help.
Threats and Silence
Following the brutal attack, Pawar allegedly threatened Ajwelkar, warning her not to disclose the incident to anyone or face further beatings. Out of sheer fear, the victim remained silent for several days, not informing anyone about her ordeal, including her three children. Ajwelkar's husband passed away 26 years ago, leaving her more vulnerable in this situation.
Investigation and Legal Action
The case came to light on March 20 when a group of individuals, accompanied by a female police officer, visited the care home. They took Ajwelkar into confidence and inquired about her well-being, prompting her to finally narrate the traumatic experience. Based on her complaint, the Borivli police registered an FIR against Surekha Pawar.
The FIR includes charges under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with other relevant sections pertaining to assault and intimidation. Police officials confirmed that Pawar has been detained for inquiry and served with a legal notice as per standard procedures. Further investigation is currently underway to gather more evidence and ensure justice is served.
