Violent Clash in Mumbai's Nagpada Over Rs 700 Dispute Leaves Five Injured
A minor financial disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation in Mumbai's Nagpada area on Thursday night, resulting in five individuals sustaining injuries, with one person suffering serious harm. The altercation, which stemmed from a dispute over a mere Rs 700, led to the arrest of twelve people from both groups involved, as confirmed by police officials.
Police Register Cross Cases Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
The Mumbai Police have taken swift action by filing cross cases against the two groups, invoking charges of attempt-to-murder along with other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishnakant Upadhyay, the fight erupted over the Rs 700 amount, with participants attacking each other using iron rods and bamboo sticks.
A total of five people were injured in the incident, including Abdul Kadri Aftab Siddique, who sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at JJ Hospital. The remaining four individuals were treated and subsequently discharged from medical care.
Viral Video Captures Chaotic Scene
The incident gained widespread attention after a video circulated on social media platforms, showing individuals brandishing iron rods and bamboo sticks while chasing one another through the streets. The footage vividly captures the intensity of the confrontation, highlighting the dangerous weapons used during the clash.
Following the viral spread of the video, a police team from Nagpada promptly intervened and apprehended those involved in the violent episode.
Background of the Dispute
The conflict originated from a business-related trip to Pune undertaken by Abdul Hannan Asad Siddiqui, a 26-year-old garment businessman residing in Nagpada with his family. Accompanied by friends Mohammad Sohail Siddiqui and Zakir Dabir Siddiqui, the group had traveled to Pune for garment business purposes approximately a week prior to the incident.
During their stay, they shared accommodation in a hotel and agreed to split the room rent. However, due to the closure of markets following the tragic helicopter crash death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Zakir returned to Mumbai earlier, intending to purchase clothes locally.
Two days later, Abdul also returned to Mumbai on Thursday morning and contacted Zakir, requesting reimbursement for his share of the hotel rent, which amounted to Rs 1,200. Zakir transferred Rs 400 via Gpay but refused to pay the remaining Rs 700, sparking a heated argument over the phone that quickly escalated into mutual threats and abuse.
Violent Confrontation Erupts
Abdul alleged that while he was traveling with family members and friends toward Kamathipura, near Gausia Masjid, Zakir arrived with eight to nine associates and launched a violent attack using iron rods and bamboo. In response, the police registered a separate case based on Zakir's statement, in which he claimed that Abdul, along with six to seven companions, assaulted him and his friends with an iron rod.
The police have booked nine individuals in Abdul's FIR and seven in Zakir's case, resulting in the arrest of twelve people from both sides. These individuals are scheduled to be presented in court on Friday, facing serious legal consequences under the attempt-to-murder charges and other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
This incident underscores how seemingly trivial disputes can rapidly escalate into dangerous violence, necessitating strict legal measures to maintain public safety and order in urban areas like Mumbai.
