A 36-year-old businessman was arrested by the Khar police in Mumbai for allegedly renewing his arms licence from Nagaland using forged documents, including a fake Police Clearance Certificate. The accused, identified as Faiz Irfan Adenwala, was taken into custody on Friday in connection with a case registered under the Arms Act, cheating, forgery, and breach of trust.
Details of the Alleged Crime
According to police officials, Adenwala illegally renewed his arms licence issued from Nagaland by submitting forged documents. Based on this licence, he was found in possession of firearms. The police further alleged that the accused failed to submit mandatory information regarding his possession of the firearm to the Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate, which is a legal requirement.
Legal Proceedings
Adenwala was produced before the 9th Court at Bandra (East), Mumbai on May 30. Following his appearance, the court remanded him to police custody until June 2 to facilitate further investigation into the case. The police have stated that the probe is ongoing and more details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
The arrest highlights the importance of strict adherence to firearm licensing laws and the verification of documents submitted for licence renewals. Authorities are expected to scrutinize similar cases to prevent misuse of the system.
