Mumbai: In a disturbing incident of cyber harassment, the Malwani police have registered a case against a man for allegedly morphing photographs of his former girlfriend’s mother and sister with obscene content and circulating them to her family and relatives on social media.
Complaint Details
According to the police, the 25-year-old woman, who resides in Malwani with her parents and siblings, filed a complaint stating that she befriended the accused, identified only as Arif, on Instagram in May 2025. The two began chatting regularly and eventually entered into a relationship.
Incident in Hyderabad
In January 2026, the couple traveled to Hyderabad for an outing. During this trip, the complainant alleges that Arif took photographs of her mother and sister from her phone and also obtained the contact numbers of her family members.
Relations Sour After Return
After returning to Mumbai, the relationship deteriorated, and the couple began having frequent altercations. Subsequently, the complainant discovered that photographs of her mother and sister, morphed with obscene content, were being circulated on social media by Arif among her family and relatives.
Legal Action Taken
The victim then approached the Malwani police, who registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused for defamation and intimidation. The police are investigating the matter further.
This case highlights the growing menace of cyber harassment and the misuse of technology to target individuals and their families. Authorities urge victims to report such incidents promptly.
