Mumbai Police Arrests Security Guard for Rs 1.8 Crore Temple Jewelry Theft
In a swift operation, Mumbai city police have apprehended a security guard from Madhya Pradesh who is accused of stealing gold and diamond jewelry valued at a staggering Rs 1.8 crore from a Jain temple located in the Kalachowki area. The arrest was executed within an impressive 48-hour timeframe following the filing of the First Information Report (FIR), with authorities successfully recovering all of the stolen valuables.
Details of the Temple Theft and Investigation
The theft occurred in the early hours of March 30 at the Jain temple, which is situated within a housing society in Kalachowki, Mumbai. Initially, an FIR was registered against an unknown individual, prompting a rigorous investigation by the police. Law enforcement officials meticulously scanned nearly 300 CCTV cameras from the vicinity, which ultimately led them to identify the prime suspect as Jitendra Nagaich (34), a native of Bhind in Madhya Pradesh.
Through advanced technical analysis, police determined that Nagaich was hiding at a relative's home in Madhya Pradesh. A coordinated effort was launched to apprehend him, resulting in his capture as he attempted to flee by jumping across rooftops. This dramatic arrest highlights the efficiency and determination of the Mumbai police force in tackling high-value crimes.
Background of the Accused and Police Statement
Deputy Commissioner of Police R Raghasudha of Zone 4 provided insights into the case, revealing that Jitendra Nagaich is not a first-time offender. The accused faces multiple criminal cases already registered against him in Madhya Pradesh, indicating a history of illicit activities. This prior record may have contributed to his attempt to evade capture by hiding in his home state.
The recovery of all stolen jewelry, worth Rs 1.8 crore, is a significant achievement for the police, ensuring that the temple's valuable assets are returned intact. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities in security arrangements at religious institutions and the need for enhanced protective measures.
Authorities have commended the quick response and thorough investigative work that led to the arrest within two days of the FIR. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of surveillance technology and inter-state cooperation in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
