Mumbai Police Book Two for Rs 7.5 Lakh Job Cheat

The MRA Marg police in south Mumbai have registered a case against two Wadala residents for allegedly defrauding a 65-year-old man of Rs 7.5 lakh under the pretext of securing a government job for his son in the state secretariat, Mantralaya.

FIR Filed Against Accused

An FIR was lodged on May 4 against Vishwanath Gache and Moreshwar Chorge, both residents of Wadala. The complainant, originally from Nanded, had come into contact with the accused some time ago. The accused claimed they could help his son obtain a clerk's position in the state government's Public Works Department.

How the Fraud Unfolded

According to police sources, the accused met the complainant at a restaurant near CSMT railway station and promised a job for his son. They initially demanded Rs 12 lakh, which was negotiated down to Rs 8 lakh. The complainant borrowed Rs 7.5 lakh from fellow farmers. He transferred Rs 1 lakh online and handed over Rs 6.5 lakh in cash to the accused at the same hotel.

To maintain the deception, the accused arranged a fake medical examination at a hospital and later produced a forged government appointment letter. The fraud was exposed when the complainant visited the Mantralaya, where officials confirmed that the appointment order was fake.

Investigation Underway

An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the fraud and to track down any other potential victims. Police are also examining the forged documents and the role of any other individuals involved in the scheme.
