Mumbai: The Mumbai traffic police have initiated an inquiry following a viral social media post on Thursday that alleged bribery and harassment by a traffic constable during a late-night vehicle inspection in the city.
Allegations in the Viral Post
In his post on X, Anirudh Kejriwal claimed that he was stopped by the police because his car bore a Gujarat registration number plate. He further alleged that the policeman accused him of multiple traffic violations, threatened him with a fine of Rs 3,000, and later allegedly demanded a settlement amount of Rs 1,000. According to the post, the complainant stated that he was asked to step out of his vehicle and accompany the officer to a police vehicle before the alleged demand for cash was made.
Social Media Reaction and Police Response
The post has since gained significant traction on social media, triggering widespread reactions and criticism. Police sources said senior Mumbai police officials have taken cognisance of the allegations and begun verifying the authenticity of the claims, including identifying the personnel involved and examining whether any official complaint has been lodged.
Kejriwal later posted: Amazed by the responsiveness of @mumbai police and @MTP... Less than 12 hours after my post, two inspectors reached out to understand what happened and gather details.
