The victim, who is employed at a private company and resides in Malad East with her parents and siblings, initially met the 22-year-old accused approximately two years ago through the social media platform Snapchat. Following their online interaction, the pair exchanged phone numbers and began communicating regularly. Their first in-person meeting occurred in April 2025 within the woman's residential locality, leading to frequent encounters and the development of a romantic relationship.
However, the relationship faced significant opposition from the woman's family, who were strongly against the match. Consequently, the woman made the difficult decision to sever ties with the accused, ending their association.
Escalation of Harassment After Engagement
The situation took a drastic turn in January 2026 when the woman became engaged to another man. Upon learning of this engagement, the accused initiated a campaign of stalking and intimidation. He began threatening the woman's family, demanding that they call off the engagement and warning that he would not spare anyone if his demands were not met.
In an effort to resolve the matter peacefully, both the woman and her father separately attempted to reason with the accused, urging him to move on from the past relationship. Unfortunately, these appeals proved futile, as the accused continued his harassing behavior.
Legal Action and Police Intervention
The harassment escalated further when the accused started to defame the woman, spreading malicious information about her. Faced with this ongoing ordeal and the failure of personal appeals, the victim recently decided to take formal legal action. She approached the Kurar Police station and filed a detailed complaint, leading to the registration of the FIR.
