Tragedy Strikes Andheri Construction Site
A young truck helper lost his life in a horrific accident at a construction site in Mumbai's Andheri area on Wednesday. The 30-year-old victim, Amar Anand Pagare, was struck on the head by an iron rod that fell from the seventh floor of an under-construction building.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The tragic event occurred around 11 am in the Marol area of Andheri East. Pagare, who worked as a helper for a Nashik-based truck driver, had arrived with driver Anil Kokane to deliver a consignment of paver blocks from Nashik.
According to police reports, Pagare was stepping down during the unloading process when the iron rod fell directly on his head. His colleague Kokane was resting inside the truck at the time and escaped injury.
Other workers at the site immediately rushed the seriously injured Pagare to a nearby hospital. However, medical officials declared him dead on arrival, unable to save him from the severe head trauma.
Safety Negligence and Legal Action
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation police have taken serious note of the incident and booked the site supervisor under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death due to negligence.
A police officer from the MIDC police station revealed shocking safety lapses at the construction site. "The site was not following the basic safety norms; there was no net, nor a warning signboard. Pagare lost his life because basic safety norms were compromised," the officer stated.
Investigators have recorded statements from both the site supervisor and the manager as part of their ongoing investigation into the preventable tragedy.
Disturbing Pattern of Similar Incidents
This is not an isolated incident in Mumbai's construction landscape. This marks the second such tragedy in less than two months in the city.
On October 9, a 22-year-old woman was killed just meters away from her Jogeshwari residence when a cement block fell on her head from another under-construction building while she was on her way to office.
The repeated incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety protocols at construction sites across Mumbai to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
