Murder Accused Dies by Suicide in Raisen Hospital Toilet
A 60-year-old man, accused of burning his wife to death, allegedly died by suicide inside a toilet at a hospital in Raisen on Tuesday morning. The deceased, identified as Jamuna Prasad Gaur, was booked for the murder of his wife, Marphool, 55, and was not in police custody at the time of the incident.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Police reported that Gaur allegedly doused his wife with petrol and set her ablaze following a domestic dispute on February 20. She later succumbed to burn injuries during treatment at a hospital in Bhopal on February 25. Since the incident, Gaur had been on the run, evading arrest.
Sources from the hospital revealed that Gaur earlier attempted suicide by jumping before a train in Vidisha district, sustaining injuries to his legs. He was brought to Raisen district hospital by ambulance services around two days ago and was admitted for treatment of a fractured leg.
Events Leading to the Suicide
On Tuesday around 8:30 am, Gaur went to the bathroom as usual. When he did not return, hospital staff checked and found him dead. The local police outpost was informed, and a case of unnatural death was registered before Kotwali police were alerted.
Kotwali police station in-charge Narendra Goyal stated, "The deceased had some anger issues, and over a petty dispute, he doused his wife with petrol and set her ablaze. She later succumbed to burn injuries during treatment."
This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and the ongoing challenges in police investigations. Authorities are continuing their probe into both the murder and the subsequent suicide, emphasizing the need for timely intervention in such disputes.
