A 21-year-old murder suspect, wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing outside a hotel on Mathura Road last month, was arrested following a brief encounter with the Faridabad police crime branch in the Bhupani area late Saturday night.
Encounter Details
The accused, identified as Indra Tyagi alias Pandit, a resident of Delhi’s Molarband area, sustained a bullet injury to his right leg during the incident. He was subsequently admitted to the civil hospital in Faridabad, where his condition is reported to be stable, according to a police officer.
Police officials stated that the crime branch DLF team received a tip-off indicating that Tyagi was heading towards Ganesh Colony near Bhupani Mod on a motorcycle. Acting on this information, the team set up a barricade near Sai Colony on Master Road.
Police Action and Exchange of Fire
According to ACP (Crime-2) Varun Kumar Dahiya, when police signaled the accused to stop, he attempted to flee and opened fire at the officers. “Two rounds were fired at the police vehicle and one at ASI Pradeep. Police retaliated, injuring the accused in the leg before overpowering him,” Dahiya explained.
Following the encounter, police recovered a country-made pistol, two live cartridges, three empty shells, and a Splendor motorcycle from the scene. A new case has been registered at Bhupani police station under sections related to attempt to murder and provisions of the Arms Act.
Criminal Background
Tyagi was wanted in connection with the murder of a man named Sachin, who was stabbed to death outside the Red Lion OYO Hotel under the Sarai Khwaja police station area on the night of April 9-10. Investigators have also revealed that the accused was absconding in another attempt-to-murder case registered at Sector 31 police station for allegedly stabbing two men in December of last year.
The police continue to investigate the accused’s involvement in other criminal activities.
