Varanasi Court Directs Police to File Murder Case Against BHU Anaesthetist in 2019 Death
In a significant development, the Rohania police in Varanasi have registered a murder case against a doctor and professor from the Anaesthesia department at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), along with one unidentified individual. This action follows explicit directions from the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Varanasi, reopening the investigation into the death of Jitendra Yadav, which occurred in July 2019.
FIR Lodged Based on Brother's Allegations of Video-Related Killing
The First Information Report (FIR) was filed on February 7, immediately after the police received the court's order. According to the complaint by Dharmendra Yadav, the brother of the deceased, the anaesthetist allegedly threw Jitendra into the Ahraura dam in Mirzapur with the intent to kill him. This drastic act was purportedly motivated by Jitendra having recorded an objectionable video of the doctor.
Raju Singh, the in-charge of Rohania police station, confirmed the registration of the FIR and highlighted the challenges in the case. He noted that since the incident took place nearly seven years ago, authorities are now actively working to gather evidence as part of the renewed investigation. This effort is crucial to substantiate the allegations and move forward with legal proceedings.
Background of the Case and Previous Police Action
Dharmendra Yadav provided detailed accounts of the events leading to his brother's death. Jitendra worked as an assistant in the operation theatre of Highway Hospital in Chitaipur, where the accused anaesthetist offered his services. It is alleged that Jitendra captured the objectionable video, and upon discovering this, the doctor demanded its handover. When Jitendra refused, a conspiracy was allegedly formed to retrieve the clip.
On July 30, 2019, the anaesthetist reportedly took Jitendra to the Ahraura dam under the guise of a picnic. After consuming alcohol with two other companions, Jitendra was allegedly pushed into the dam, resulting in his death. Initially, the police had registered a case in 2019 but later submitted a final report, classifying the death as accidental. Dissatisfied with this conclusion, Dharmendra approached the court, leading to the current FIR and a fresh look into the matter.
This case underscores the complexities of legal processes in long-pending incidents and the role of judicial intervention in ensuring thorough investigations. The renewed focus on evidence collection aims to bring clarity and justice to a tragedy that has lingered for years.
