However, upon the expiration of this extended furlough period, Tamang failed to surrender to authorities as required, effectively going absconding and initiating a five-year period on the run.

Police officials indicate that Tamang had recently returned to Delhi in search of work opportunities, a move that ultimately led to his capture.
