A murder convict serving a life sentence escaped from an open prisoner camp under Chittorgarh District Prison on Friday morning, prompting a search operation by the police. The jail administration lodged a complaint at Chittorgarh’s Kotwali police station after the prisoner was found missing during a routine headcount.

According to Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Tulsiram Prajapat, jail guard Vedram Chaudhary reported that Lalit Meena, also known as Lalshankar or Lala, a resident of Udaipur district, was lodged in the open jail. During the 6 AM roll call, prison staff discovered that one inmate was missing. A recount was conducted, but the prisoner could not be traced, following which authorities informed the police.

Police Response

Police registered a case and began searching for the absconding prisoner. Efforts are underway to track down the convict, and multiple teams have been deployed to possible hideouts.
