In a targeted crackdown on illegal activities, the Nagpur Police Crime Branch made a significant seizure of contraband foreign liquor during a special operation on Thursday. The action led to the immediate arrest of a driver found in possession of a large stock of illicit alcohol.
Police Trap Nets Illegal Liquor Haul
The special patrol was conducted by the Immoral Human Trafficking Prevention Team of the crime branch. Officers set up a strategic trap at Sharda Company Chowk in Kapil Nagar between 2 pm and 3 pm on Thursday. Their vigilance focused on intercepting vehicles suspected of transporting illegal goods.
During the inspection, a car bearing the registration number MH49BK4127 was stopped and searched. The search revealed a substantial cache of illegal foreign liquor. Police officials confiscated a total of 148 bottles, each with a capacity of 180 ml. The bottles contained various premium international brands of alcohol that were being transported without proper authorization.
Driver Arrested on the Spot
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ajay Jaiswal, a resident of Pardi, was taken into custody immediately. He was arrested at the scene for his alleged involvement in the illegal transportation and possession of the foreign liquor. The swift action by the crime branch team prevented the distribution of the illicit stock in the local market.
Ongoing Crackdown on Illegal Activities
This seizure underscores the continued efforts by Nagpur police to curb the flow of illegal substances and enforce law and order. The Immoral Human Trafficking Prevention Team, while primarily focused on human trafficking, also plays a role in intercepting other related illicit trades. The accused, Ajay Jaiswal, is expected to face legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law for possession and transportation of illegal liquor.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the estimated value of the seized consignment or whether the investigation points to a larger network. The case highlights the police's proactive measures in conducting special patrols and setting up traps based on intelligence inputs to maintain public safety and compliance with state excise laws.
