Nagpur Police Bust Dhaba, Seize 20kg Doda Powder, Arrest Owner
Nagpur: 20kg Doda Powder Seized, Dhaba Owner Arrested

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking along a crucial highway, the Nagpur rural police have apprehended a young dhaba owner and confiscated a substantial quantity of banned narcotics. The operation, which unfolded on Monday, led to the seizure of more than 20 kilograms of illegal doda powder, highlighting the ongoing battle against substance abuse in the region.

Dhaba Raid Uncovers Narcotics Consignment

Acting on specific intelligence gathered during routine patrols, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mauda police station set a trap at a popular highway eatery. This dhaba, once known as a favoured pitstop for travellers, had recently come under suspicion for being a potential hub for drug peddlers. The police team conducted a search at the location, leading to the dramatic recovery.

The authorities discovered over 20 kilograms of doda powder, a narcotic substance derived from poppy husk. The contraband was meticulously packed into 1-kilogram packets, suggesting it was being prepared for sale and distribution. The estimated street value of the seized powder is approximately ₹3 lakh.

Young Dhaba Owner Arrested, Claims Innocence

The police arrested the dhaba's proprietor, identified as Aslam Pyara Khan (21). Khan, originally a resident of Barhampur in Ludhiana, Punjab, was currently staying in Wadoda within Kamptee taluka. Following his arrest, Khan reportedly told investigators that the consignment was merely left with him by a truck driver. However, law enforcement officials are skeptical of this claim.

"The dhaba owner stored the consignments in 1kg packets, indicating he was likely peddling it from the dhaba," stated Senior Inspector Sarin Durge of the Mauda police station. The method of storage strongly points towards an intent to sell, rather than just safekeeping.

Investigation Aims to Unravel Larger Network

In addition to the narcotics, the police also seized a motorcycle (registration MH40/BD0929) and a mobile phone from the accused. The total value of the confiscated items now stands at ₹3,71,600. A formal case has been registered against Aslam Pyara Khan under the relevant sections of the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Mauda police station.

Khan remains in police custody as the investigation deepens. The primary focus for the authorities is to trace the origins of the drugs and uncover any larger supply networks that might be operating between Punjab and Maharashtra, exploiting the busy highway corridors frequented by truckers and travellers.

This successful operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Rural) Harssh A Poddar. It underscores the continued and vigilant efforts of the Nagpur rural police to combat the menace of drug peddling, particularly by targeting strategic locations like highway hubs that are often misused for such illegal activities.
