Fire Breaks Out Near Jewellery Showroom in Nagpur's Chitar Oli
A massive fire erupted near a four-storey jewellery showroom in the densely populated Chitar Oli area of Nagpur late Thursday night, damaging several vehicles, a mobile tower installation, and electrical wiring. The blaze was reported around 10 pm near the Sonchafa showroom, prompting initial fears that the showroom itself had caught fire.
Chief Fire Officer Tushar Barahate later clarified that the flames were largely confined to a hoarding structure and adjoining electrical installations outside the premises. The showroom did not suffer any damage, he confirmed.
Cause and Spread of the Fire
According to Barahate, the fire is suspected to have originated in the hoarding and spread through electrical wiring connected to a nearby mobile tower. Around 10 two-wheelers parked in an adjacent garage were also damaged. "The fire appeared larger as the hoarding was engulfed in flames," Barahate added.
Firefighting Operations
Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and firefighters brought the blaze under control within about 30 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings in the congested locality. No casualties or injuries were reported till late night. Officials said a detailed assessment would be carried out after the fire was completely extinguished.
Second Major Fire in Three Weeks
This is the second major fire reported in the locality in the past three weeks, the previous one involving a garment storeroom. The exact cause is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is underway.
