In a shocking revelation from Nagpur, an alleged honeytrap attempt at a hotel in the Sadar area has brought to light a sophisticated criminal syndicate operating across India. This network, comprising women, bouncers, and male accomplices from regions including Delhi, Noida, Haryana, and Chandigarh, systematically lures men through popular dating applications.
Modus Operandi of the Honeytrap Gang
The syndicate's operations are meticulously planned. Women initiate contact through dating apps and arrange meetings at pre-decided locations such as bars, pubs, lounges, and even resorts. These venues are often complicit, with owners and managers allegedly in connivance with the gang. A man who narrowly escaped being duped at a hotel near LIC Chowk in Nagpur detailed the harrowing experience to authorities.
He explained that once the target arrives, the gang employs hidden cameras to film compromising situations. Subsequently, they present inflated bills running into thousands of rupees. When victims protest, the gang unleashes a barrage of threats, including morphed photos going viral, false rape cases, and blackmail targeting family members. What begins as a casual outing swiftly descends into a nightmare of financial and emotional extortion.
Escape Tactics and Nationwide Movement
After financially draining their prey, the women and bouncers employ clever escape strategies. They take cabs from approximately 200 meters away from these dens and disembark at the nearest square to avoid detection. The man who avoided victimization by refusing to consume liquor later followed two women and their bouncers, uncovering these tactics.
Sources indicate that these gangs are highly mobile, moving from one metro city to another across India. They flee immediately if there is any risk of exposure or arrest, making them elusive targets for law enforcement.
Police Action and Evidence Collection
In response, the Sadar police station has made significant arrests, including a waiter-cum-bouncer and the owner of the bar and restaurant near LIC Chowk. During the operation, authorities seized several mobile phones, cash, and other incriminating evidence from the waiter-cum-bouncer. Police are now intensively scanning CCTV footage, WhatsApp chats, and call records to trace additional gang members and dismantle the network.
