Nagpur Jail Dispute Escalates into Brutal Assault in Sudam Nagri

In a shocking incident of violence, four individuals with extensive criminal backgrounds brutally assaulted a 47-year-old man in Sudam Nagri, near Ambazari Khadan, on Sunday morning. The attack, which left the victim grievously injured, has been traced back to an old rivalry that began within the walls of Nagpur central jail.

Details of the Violent Attack

According to the complaint filed by Sachin Manerao, a resident of Sudam Nagri who himself has criminal cases, the assault occurred while he was riding a moped. The attackers, identified as Gajanan Battalwar (50), Bhupendra Battalwar (23), Pawan Battulwar (32), and Raju Kumbhare (32), launched a coordinated and vicious attack.

Gajanan Battalwar, who has at least 15 criminal cases against him, initiated the assault by striking Manerao with a knife, causing a graze on his neck. As Manerao lost balance and fell, the other assailants joined in. Bhupendra Battalwar stabbed him in the eye, Pawan Battulwar attacked his left shoulder and chest with an iron pipe, and Raju Kumbhare assaulted him with a handgun.

Background of the Conflict

Sources indicate that the violence was the culmination of a month-long conflict, with Manerao reportedly resisting extortion attempts by the Battalwar group. The dispute, however, has deeper roots, originating from an old feud that started when both parties were incarcerated in Nagpur central jail. Threats had been exchanged between the groups prior to the attack, highlighting the escalating tension.

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

Ambazari police have swiftly arrested all four assailants in connection with the case. A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Arms Act and MPC 135. The police are investigating the full extent of the criminal histories involved and the motives behind the extortion attempts.

Victim's Condition and Ongoing Investigation

Sachin Manerao is currently undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital for his injuries, which include the critical stab wound to his eye. Medical authorities are monitoring his condition closely. The Ambazari police continue their investigation to uncover any additional details or accomplices linked to this violent episode, emphasizing the serious nature of crimes involving weapons and organized assault.
