Nagpur Police Arrest Man for Illegal Firearm Possession Near Kanhan
The Local Crime Branch (LCB) team of Nagpur rural police has successfully arrested a 24-year-old man for the illegal possession of a country-made firearm and live cartridges in the Kanhan area. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal arms activities in the region.
Tip-Off Leads to Swift Police Action
Acting on a credible tip-off, the police team strategically laid a trap near the highway bridge on Hiwara (Gahu) Road. The location was chosen based on intelligence suggesting suspicious activities in the vicinity. The team remained vigilant, monitoring the area for any signs of illegal behavior.
Suspicious Behavior and Attempted Escape
During the surveillance, police officers spotted a man behaving in a highly suspicious manner. Upon noticing the police presence, the individual immediately attempted to flee the scene, raising further alarms. However, the alert and well-prepared LCB team acted swiftly, managing to apprehend him before he could escape.
Identification and Recovery of Illegal Arms
Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Ajit Manhare, aged 24, a resident of Parseoni. In a search conducted in the presence of witnesses, police recovered one country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. Manhare failed to produce any valid licence for the firearm, confirming the illegal nature of the possession.
Legal Proceedings and Charges Filed
A case has been registered against Ajit Manhare at the Kanhan police station under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, which pertain to the illegal possession and use of firearms. Following the arrest, the accused was produced before the court, where legal proceedings are now underway. This arrest underscores the strict enforcement of arms regulations in Nagpur.
