The convicted individual, identified as Sijochandran alias Prince Roshalchandran, aged 31 and a resident of Deoli Khanpur in New Delhi, was found guilty under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with other related charges. In addition to the eight-year prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. Failure to pay this fine will result in an additional three months of simple imprisonment.

Background of the Violent Incident

According to the prosecution's case, the incident occurred on August 1, 2012. The accused, enraged over a police complaint filed against him by his ex-girlfriend, followed a company bus in which she was traveling with colleagues. Prince stopped the bus near Dhamna on Amravati Road, forcibly boarded it, and fired two shots. He then compelled the woman to disembark and shot her in the left thigh, causing serious injury.

A case was promptly registered at the Hingna Police Station under multiple sections, including:

  • Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC

The investigation was led by then Police Inspector GR Kankale, while the prosecution was conducted by Government Prosecutor Kalpana Pandey. District and Additional Sessions Judge SH Gwalani presided over the case and pronounced the judgment, convicting the accused on all counts.
