The case, registered under the Kapil Nagar police station, highlights the authorities' commitment to rapid legal action in crimes against women.
Details of the Alleged Incident
The survivor, a final-year arts student and an avid canine lover, reported that the accused, identified as Vaibhav Brahme, trespassed into her home on April 1. According to police accounts, Brahme entered under the pretext that her dog had bitten him. During the confrontation, he allegedly grabbed her hand in an inappropriate manner, leading to a harrowing ordeal for the victim.
The FIR details that Brahme used abusive and obscene language before forcibly entering the house. After the alleged molestation, the woman raised an alarm, prompting her parents to rush to her aid. The accused then reportedly threatened the family with further harm, escalating the situation.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Demonstrating prompt action, the Kapil Nagar police registered the FIR shortly after midnight on Monday, following the complainant's decision to come forward. The investigation was led by sub-inspector Yogesh Nalte under the supervision of senior inspector Satish Ade. Key steps included issuing notices to the accused, recording electronic statements, conducting a panchnama, and gathering evidence such as CCTV footage and forensic reports.
In line with Supreme Court guidelines, police issued a notice to Brahme and released him after obtaining necessary undertakings, while continuing with legal proceedings. The accused was also produced before Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale as part of the procedural formalities.
Charges and Swift Chargesheet Filing
Police booked the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to trespass, molestation, abuse, and criminal intimidation. PSI Nalte completed the probe and filed the chargesheet in court within 14 hours of FIR registration, a move praised for its efficiency.
Senior inspector Ade emphasized that this rapid filing reflects Nagpur City Police's dedication to ensuring women's safety and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women. The use of electronic evidence and witness statements played a crucial role in expediting the process.
