In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police successfully intercepted a private bus on the Nagpur-Amravati highway, leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of mephedrone (MD) powder. The operation, conducted on Wednesday night at Gondkhairi, resulted in the confiscation of 80 grams of the synthetic stimulant, along with other related materials, with an estimated street value of approximately 4 lakh rupees.
Coordinated Police Action Based on Intelligence
Acting on a credible tip-off, a specialized team from the LCB, operating under the direct guidance of Superintendent of Police Harssh A Poddar and Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Mhaske, meticulously planned and executed a trap. With the support of other senior officers, the team strategically intercepted the targeted bus, ensuring a swift and effective operation to prevent any potential escape or disposal of the contraband.
Discovery of Hidden Contraband
During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities uncovered a black plastic parcel cleverly concealed under one of the seats. This parcel contained the 80 grams of mephedrone powder, a drug commonly known as MD or "meow meow," which is notorious for its addictive properties and severe health risks. The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the illicit drug trade in the region.

A formal case has been registered at the Kalmeshwar police station under Sections 8(a) and 22(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which pertain to the prohibition and control of narcotic substances.
Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt
Following the seizure and registration of the case, police have intensified their efforts to apprehend other individuals potentially linked to this drug trafficking network. A comprehensive search operation has been launched to nab the remaining accused, underscoring the commitment of the Nagpur Rural Police to dismantle such operations and ensure justice is served.
